The hidden advisory market · Global

Small and medium-sized enterprises are the engine of global employment — and most advisory board seats, anywhere in the world, are never advertised. That is the entire problem this library is built to solve.

Small and medium-sized enterprises are the engine of global employment — in Europe, in the Americas, in Asia, in Africa. Founders everywhere quietly need experienced advisors who can stress-test decisions, open doors and bring AI-fluent perspective into the boardroom — but they rarely know how to ask, and almost never post the role publicly.

On the other side, thousands of seasoned executives around the world want to step into advisory work and cannot find the door. Job boards don't list these seats. LinkedIn shows polished profiles but not what founders actually buy. Board Readiness Central is a global platform — open to advisors and companies in any country — with a deliberate focus on Europe and North America, where most of our source material is grounded.

Why founders can't find advisors

SMEs lack the network, vocabulary and process to articulate what good board-level support looks like for their stage.

Why advisors can't find boards

Over 80% of advisory seats are filled through warm introductions inside narrow ecosystems. Positioning beats credentials.

How this library closes the gap

Seven foundational documents map the SME boardroom, the operator-to-advisor mindset shift, AI-augmented governance, and the legal and compensation scaffolding.

Take the diagnostic

Our approach

Concise by design. A door to deeper knowledge.

We respect your time. Every document in this library is deliberately synthesized — a clear, opinionated view of one topic, readable in a single sitting. And every document closes with a curated list of source hyperlinks so you can go as deep as you want, whenever you want. Think of each download as a doorway, not an encyclopedia.

Synthesized for focus

Each document strips a board topic down to what actually changes how you act — distilled by practitioners, not padded by consultants.

Sourced for depth

Every download ends with a vetted bibliography of source links. Follow them when you need the receipts, the research, or the deeper case studies.

Growing with you

New documents are added regularly, guided by reader feedback. Tell us what's missing and we'll build it next.

The library

Two tracks. One library.

The Advisor Track prepares operators to land and serve SME board seats. The Company Playbook helps founders and CEOs decide, design, recruit and run an advisory board that actually works. Mix and match — pay once, download in five formats, no subscription.

About the editor

7boards is designed and written by a Stanford Graduate School of Business alumnus with more than 40 years founding companies and serving on advisory and fiduciary boards of small and medium-sized enterprises across Europe and United States.

The editor writes anonymously so that the frameworks — not the personality — carry the argument. It is a governance principle in itself: an advisor's job is to be useful, not visible.

Frequently asked questions

About the library, the formats, and advisory work itself.

How is delivery handled?
After payment, you're taken to a success page with secure download links that expire after 15 minutes. Each document is delivered in five formats: PDF, editable Word (.docx), EPUB for e-readers, Markdown for note systems and AI tools, and a styled HTML page.
Can I buy individual documents?
Yes. Pick any combination across both tracks in a single checkout — Advisor Track documents are €10 each and Company Playbook documents are €25 each. No subscription, no minimum.
What formats do I get?
PDF, DOCX (editable Word), EPUB (Apple Books / Kindle / Kobo), Markdown (.md), and a styled standalone HTML page. The same content, packaged for the tool you actually work in.
Can I share the documents with my team?
Yes — purchase grants you a personal commercial-use license. You can share with colleagues inside your organisation and use the templates with your advisory clients, but please don't republish them publicly.
Is this only for Europe?
No. Board Readiness Central is a global platform — advisors and companies from anywhere in the world are welcome. Our source material has a deliberate focus on European and North American governance practice, but the frameworks (advisory vs. fiduciary, FAST equity, board cadence) translate across geographies.
Do you offer refunds?
Because downloads are delivered instantly, sales are final. If a file is corrupted or the link expires before you can use it, email us and we'll re-issue it.
Do I need an account?
No. Buyers checkout as guests with their email and receive signed download links.
What is the difference between an advisory board and a fiduciary board?
A fiduciary board carries legal duties to shareholders, signs off on accounts and bears personal liability. An advisory board is a non-binding strategic sounding board — lighter weight, faster to assemble, and the default fit for most SMEs.
How much do SME advisors typically earn?
Compensation usually mixes a small monthly retainer (€500–€2,500) with equity grants of 0.05–1.00% vesting over 24 months, scaled by company stage and time commitment. Document 7 covers the FAST framework in detail.
Do I need prior board experience to land my first seat?
No, but you need a credible operator track record in a specific vertical and a deliberate positioning strategy. Document 5 covers exactly how to make yourself findable to the founders who need your expertise.
Why are the documents so short?
Deliberately. Each document is synthesized to give you a clear, opinionated view of one topic in the time it takes to drink a coffee — and then points you outward through a curated list of source hyperlinks at the end. They're built to be doors to deeper knowledge, not encyclopedias.
Will the library grow?
Yes — new documents are added regularly. Reader feedback drives the roadmap, so if there's a board topic you wish we covered, please tell us via the feedback page.
